International Yoga Day 2019: Steps To Keep In Mind Before, During And After Yoga Practice

The 5th International Day of Yoga will be held on June 21 in around 178 countries around the world. The theme of Yoga Day 2019 is “Yoga for the heart.” In India, the principal yoga event will be held in Jharkhand’s capital, Ranchi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform Yoga in the morning in front of 18,000 people at Prabhat Tara ground.

The Ayush Ministry has given you fixed guidelines for the yoga practice on World Yoga Day. Here are the steps you must maintain in thought before, all through, and after the yoga exercise. All of these schools of Yoga are not necessarily very different from each other. They are rather like threads of the same cloth, entangled into each other. Yoga has been considered an effective way of self-improvement and spiritual enlightenment for thousands of years. All these systems have this same purpose; only the ways of achieving it differ for each. In its most popular form, the term Yoga has come to be associated with the last of these systems, Hatha yoga. For this article, the term Yoga is also used with the same meaning. Although, when it comes to the Philosophy of Yoga at the end of this article, the term Yoga will have a broader scope.

Asana and Pranayama

Let’s look at the main two components of Hatha yoga, i.e., Asana and Pranayama. Asana: Asana means acquiring a body posture and maintaining it as long as one’s body allows. When done rightly according to the rules discussed above, Asana renders enormous physical and psychological benefits. Asana is looked upon as the preliminary step to Pranayama. With the practice of Asana, there is a balancing of opposite principles in the body and psyche. It also helps to get rid of inertia. The benefits of Asana are enhanced with longer maintenance of it.
