CALANGUTE: If you’re a traveler and pop into one of the mushrooming rubdown parlors in Calangute for a few minutes of rest and relaxation, please select the ones that are reliable and above board. Otherwise, your rejuvenation can be short-lived.
On Monday, the Police Inspector of Calangute Police Station, in a written notice to the SDM Bardez, requested the constitution of a special squad to address the mushrooming unlawful spas and massage parlors in his jurisdiction.
PI Nolasco Raposo informed the SDM that the squad became constituted and applicable earlier, but it isn’t currently functioning. Multiple incidents have occurred in the past wherein travelers were solicited and robbed by touts under the pretext of a massage.
In the observation, Raposo stated, “It is submitted that currently, many unlawful spas/rubdown parlors are operating on this Police Station jurisdiction without acquiring obligatory licenses from the equipped authority.”

It also said that such establishments perform with Trade and Establishment License from the local panchayat, health NOC and GSPCB certificates.
The letter to SDM states, “It is consequently kindly asked to constitute the stated special squad as soon as possible.” The special squad must include the mamlatdar, health officer, and police sub-inspector.
The police have also requested the neighborhood panchayat to check on unlawful spas and massage parlors working without alternate licenses and provoke essential movement to seal the institutions with the Goa Panchayati Raj Act.
“Due to issuing alternate licenses to numerous spas/rubdown parlors, tattoo save, club and so on has led to mushrooming of illegal touting that is bringing an awful name on your village,” a letter to the panchayat stated.
